Get Jazzed: Southside Shuffle Returns to Mississauga

Get ready to groove as one of Mississauga’s most beloved musical traditions brings the smooth sounds of blues, jazz and rock ‘n roll to Port Credit for three days of incredible shows celebrating Canadian talent.

From September 5 – 7, Tim Hortons Southside Shuffle Blues and Jazz Festival will take over the Port for its 27th year with dozens of shows across three stages, plus a street festival and even more excitement. Get all the details for an epic weekend in our guide.

Admission:

As a non-profit festival, Southside Shuffle offers a ticketed mainstage along with two free stages, the Queen Bea and World stages. Admission to the LIUNA Local 183 Street Shuffle street party is free for all. 

General admission tickets for the Mainstage are available for individual days or at a discounted rate for the full weekend. Visitors are welcome to bring blankets or lawn chairs, as there is no fixed seating.

Schedule:

The festival kicks off at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, September 5, on the Mainstage, and 6:15 p.m. on the free stages, with shows running until late. Gates open at 5:30 p.m.

On Saturday, the Queen Bea stage gates open at 11 a.m., with free shows starting at 1:00 p.m., and ending at 9:30 p.m. while shows on the World Stage start at 12:30 p.m. Paid shows run from 4:30 p.m., and the last show plays at 10:00 p.m.

The final day of the festival starts on Sunday at 11 a.m. with Walk of Fame festivities. Gates open for shows at 10 a.m., with free acts starting at 1 p.m. and ticketed shows starting at 1 p.m.

Parking and Transportation:
Parking near the festival grounds is limited, and the Port Credit Arena parking lot is closed; however, various municipal lots throughout Port Credit are open. Free Green P parking is available on Port Street by Hurontario and in the lot by Snug Harbour.

The festival is accessible by both Go Transit, via the Port Credit stop, and Mississauga Public Transit MiWay buses, with stops just a short walk from the grounds. The nearest bus stop for the westbound service is on Lakeshore Rd. E. at Stavebank Road, and the nearest stop for the eastbound service is on Lakeshore Rd. E. at Front St. S.

What to See and Do

Throughout the Southside Shuffle festival, 60 bands from across Canada, including 20 local acts, will take over Port Credit for a bustling weekend of incredible musical showcases. Don’t miss out on your favourite artists! Check out what’s happening and all the highlights you won’t want to miss. 

Shows on the Mainstage

The main event, this ticketed stage will host some of the most sought-after shows, including a headline performance by Juno award-winning rock band The Sheepdogs on Friday night. Other highlights include reggae/rock band Big Sugar closing out the Saturday line-up, and songstress Miss Emily, the Canadian Blues Awards’ 3x Female Vocalist of the Year, kicking things off on Sunday.

Free Stages

The free World Stage and Queen Bea stage will showcase dozens of incredible acts all weekend long. Mississauga’s own Penny Skolski will open the shows on Friday night, with a follow-up performance on Sunday. On Saturday, catch nine-year-old singer-songwriter Kalia, Toronto Blues Society Talent Search winner Isy Aboagye, among many more lively sets. Sunday shows include performances by ASD Band, as seen on Canada’s Got Talent, and blues duo Erin McCallum and Teddy Leonard.

Don’t miss out on the Mississauga Music Walk of Fame’s induction ceremony on the World Stage on Sunday honouring internationally acclaimed songwriter and Prince guitarist Donna Grantis, along with Mississauga hard-rock power trio, TRIUMPH. 

LIUNA! Street Shuffle

This free street party kicks off at 12:45 p.m. on Saturday with a performance by the Top Hat Marching Orchestra and The Stilt Guys for the opening ceremony. The shuffle keeps going with the Mississauga Youth Band Challenge on the World Stage, followed by musical performances across the free stages until 5:00 p.m. Wander the festival and you’ll find 15 more acts happening throughout the streets, including a set by Tree Top Poets at the P.C. Lighthouse.

Restaurant Performances

Beyond their menus, many of Port Credit’s local restaurants are known for offering next-level ambiance and live music. Throughout the weekend, they’ll be kicking it up a notch with even more shows – no ticket required. Participating venues include Donegals Irish Pub, Posta Italbar Cucina, The Pump House Grille, Roc N’ Docs, Shore Grill and Grotto, Spice Lounge and Tapas, Stonehooker Brewing Company, and Soranno’s, along with the Royal Canadian Legion.
