Nothing says summer in Ontario like a heat wave. Lucky for you, Mississauga has got some great ways to cool off when the humidity is at its worst. Next time you want to get out of the house and do something fun, but the humidity has got you down, try one of the following ways to stay cool and enjoy summer.

Celebration Square Wading Pool

Celebration Square has a free wading pool open from 10:00 am until 9:00 pm every day, designed for young children. This wading pool also includes refreshing water that sprays up from the edges, which kids love to run around in. You can also purchase or bring some cool treats and sit at one of the many surrounding picnic tables.

Air-Conditioned Shopping

Square One: Open daily from 10:00 am until 9:00 pm, Square One is more than simply a place to get away from the heat; it’s an experience. Pop in to do some shopping, visit the food court for some cool eats, or take advantage of one of their events. Summer events include Indigo Summer Play Days, food pop-ups, the YBIB Youth Summer Market, and more.

Erin Mills Town Centre: Shop the 185+ stores, dine in their food court, or take advantage of the on-site Cineplex and escape the heat for a couple of hours with a good movie and some popcorn. You’ll also want to check out some of their summer events, including Summer in the Centre Event and Hot Rodz for a Koz.

Pools and Spray pads

Mississauga is packed full of outdoor and indoor pools as an easy and fun way to cool off when the heat is too much. Don’t have time for a full-on pool session? Check out one of the city’s splash and spray pads as a quick way to cool off.

Day at the Beach

Hot days are made to be spent with the sand beneath your toes and a refreshing dip in the water to cool yourself off. Mississauga has multiple beaches to not only help you beat the heat, but are also great ways to spend the day.

Richard’s Memorial Park: is the perfect mix of sandy beach, open green space, a children’s park, and just being there drops the temperature from the rest of the city by a few degrees. Take advantage of the designated picnic area with barbecue facilities and running water.

Lakefront Promenade Park: is another great spot that gives cooler lake air. With its waterfront pathway, volleyball court, and beautiful waterfront views, you’ll feel like you’re at an upscale resort.

Jack Darling Memorial Park: here you’ll find lots of ways to cool off from the heat that seems to get trapped in the heart of the city. Take advantage of the picnic areas, an off-leash dog park, a splash pad, and a launch pad for your paddleboard or kayak.

Cool Treats Around the City

Dairy Queen is a great option for delicious cooldown treats. With multiple locations, the location at 715 Lakeshore Road is popular not just for its funnel cakes, blizzards, and soft-serve ice cream, but as the oldest ice cream shop in Mississauga.

Murphy’s Ice Cream Parlour is located in Streetsville and has been proudly serving the community cold eats since 1980; it’s safe to say they know what they’re doing.

Pinochi Ice Cream serves up freshly handmade Arabic ice cream with pistachio. Or if you’re not feeling the ice cream, how about a refreshing juice or fruit salad?

Fruity Fruitea has delectable Dubai rolled chocolate ice cream, taking a fun ice cream outing to the next level. Or, you could just enjoy one of their delicious smoothies, milkshakes or bubble tea.

Snowies Café includes a milk-based Korean shaved ice dessert known as Bingsui that melts in your mouth. Don’t miss out on the sample platter to share with the family and try a few flavours.
