How to Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Mississauga

St. Patrick’s Day acknowledges the day when Saint Patrick, a patron saint of the island, died in the year 461. Despite this sombre event, the Irish, specifically the American Irish, found a way to spruce it up and make it a fun occasion for all to celebrate.

From wearing the colour green, a tribute to the Irish Rebellion of 1798, to shamrock-shaped cookies and latte art, the national plant of Ireland, there are many ways we show our love for this country and its people.

If you’re looking for fun ways to join in the festivities in Mississauga, from celebrating for a good cause to festive treats, green beer, and great photo ops, the city has got you covered.

St. Patrick’s Day Celebration for a Good Cause

St. Patrick’s Day Ceilidh Fundraiser – Drake: A Firkin Pub

Enjoy some traditional St. Paddy’s Irish stew, soda bread, and a pint (of course) at Drake: A Firkin Pub on Sunday, March 15 as the perfect warm-up before the official holiday arrives. Dance your Irish heart away to some classic Celtic hits by guest band East of Here. Get your tickets ahead of time. All proceeds go to support Peel Crime Stoppers.

Pub Hopping

If you prefer to have some flexibility with your celebration or want to do some pub-hopping, Mississauga has some great spots.

For many pubs, including Cuchulainn’s Irish Pub in Streetsville, one day isn’t enough to celebrate the Irish. Cuchulainn’s begins its celebrations from Wednesday, March 11 through to Tuesday, March 17 and includes an Irish Luncheon, Zaddy the Paddy, a whiskey tasting, Jason K, and more.

If you’re looking to celebrate early on St. Patrick’s Day, no need for the luck of the Irish, Cuchulainn’s got you covered. You can begin your day early at 11:00 am with a pint of Guinness and hang around for Irish Dancers and traditional tunes.

Clarkson Pump & Patio is a local favourite that leans into Irish-style snacks, sips, and will certainly bring lots of Irish shenanigans around on St. Patrick’s Day.

Moxies Square One is having a St. Patrick’s Day party on Saturday, March 14, until close with $5 Jameson shots and $8 Guinness drafts. DJ Big C will keep the tunes running from 9:00 pm to 2:00 am. On Tuesday, March 17, you can expect even more shenanigans, including Dublin Drops, a live DJ, and lots of festivities.

Cooper’s Pub is celebrating with Irish fare, swags, giveaways, and green beer on Saturday, March 14 and Tuesday, March 17. Having trouble deciding which day you should go? Each day features live music and Irish Dancers, so you’re covered either way.

Bar 6ix lets you get a Guiness pint for $6 and special shooters for $7 from March 15 to 17 as part of their St. Patrick’s Day Special. Lucky guests will also find that a pound of wings will cost them $7.

Cafés, Treats, and (Non-Alcoholic) Green Sips

Despite popular opinion, celebrating St. Paddy’s Day does not have to include a green Guinness. For those looking to try some green drinks or special clover-shaped treats, try visiting your local café and see if they’re inspired by the Irish in their menu.

If green-frosted shamrock cookies aren’t on the menu, talk to the barista about it and see if they’ll whip something special up. At the very least, you can still order a matcha latte or some green tea.

Some local spots to check out include the following:

Barburu is an unassuming little cafe in the middle of a grocery store food court with TikTok viral matcha drinks and lattes. The perfect green pick-me-up.

Uncle Tetsu’s Matcha Tarts from the Food District in the Square One Shopping Centre are a must try for tea lovers. Small green bites of heaven.

Studio.89 is a non-profit community hub that serves fair-trade coffee and delicious treats, and has lots of vegan options.

Knight & Rose Café is known for its creative handcrafted latte art, its scrumptious desserts, and is located in Streetsville. Reservations ensure you get treated like royalty.

French Corner Patisserie loves to have fun with holiday-inspired treats and may just be able to put a shamrock twist to your St. Patrick’s Day latte.

Family‑Friendly & Low‑Key Ways to Celebrate

Looking for a low-key way to celebrate and see what local shops are doing for the holiday? Dress up in your best green threads and take a stroll along Port Credit’s waterfront or Streetsville’s historic main street for some St. Paddy’s-themed photo stops.

Bring the family to Orchard Family Restaurant for some hearty comfort food, homemade desserts, and a festive vibe. A great option for those who want to celebrate in a more family-friendly spot.

In the evening, head on over to the Clock Tower Lighting for a fun family outing. Come anytime between 8:00 and 11:00 pm and watch as the clock tower is illuminated in a glow of green to recognize this fun Irish holiday. It’s also a great spot to take a family photo.
