Mississauga’s Mexican restaurants are a cornerstone of the city’s diverse food scene, serving up vibrant dishes that will transport you across the country’s seven unique culinary regions. From Baja California’s ceviche to South Pacific tamales, try an authentic taste of Mexico at these five local favourite restaurants.

Border MX Mexican Grill
One of Mississauga’s most highly recommended spots for Mexican cuisine, Border MX is a casual gem located in Streetsville. While bringing an authentic taste of traditional favourites, the menu is modern and accessible, featuring vegan, vegetarian, halal, and gluten-free items, plus a kids’ menu.

Specialties include the Volcan for Two and Tampiquena Steak, though the tacos, tamales, street corn and sopes are all popular choices. Pair them with a cocktail from the featured drinks menu which includes Mexican classics like the Michelada and the Paloma.

Mount Sinai MX
Located in the renowned food hub Ridgeway Plaza, Mount Sinai is part grocer, part restaurant. Seating is limited inside, and while the food is as casual as the atmosphere, it is delicious – all flavour, no frills with affordable pricing to match. Until 11 a.m., Mount Sinai offers breakfast dishes including scrambled eggs with ham or sausage along with sides. Beyond morning fare, the menu features traditional dishes like birria, enchiladas and chicken mole, along with a variety of tacos.

On your way out, grab some of the shop’s imported Mexican treats to go.

La Patrona
A true hidden gem, La Patrona is a family-run business located inside the Mississauga flea market. The eye-catching colours are sure to pull you into the market’s food court and the food is well worth the visit. Having formerly owned a restaurant near Mexico City, the owners bring truly authentic offerings including street food.  The tacos are considered by many to be some of the best in the city, with fish and chorizo among the popular options. For something new, opt for the “Guisado del día” dish of the day.

Molkagtez
For an immersive dinner out, visit Port Credit’s trendiest new Mexican restaurant. While the tasty dishes and drinks may be the star of the show, the cool modern vibes with authentic traditional touches add to the experience. If you’re visiting on Cinco de Mayo this year, take advantage of the $10 margarita special for delicious pours served in photo-worthy glassware. Don’t miss the “Especialidades de la Casa,” house specials for two served in conventional molcajetes. Seafood fans should make sure to try one of the six aguachile or ceviche dishes on the menu.

El Mariachi Tacos and Churros
With two locations in Port Credit and Streetsville, El Mariachi has become a local go-to, especially for its two namesake menu items, tacos and churros. Taco toppings range from classic Carnitas and Baja to Chicken Tingo. The crispy avocado and rajas con queso tacos make delicious veggie options. Beyond tacos, the molten cheese appetizer, made with Oaxaca cheese and chorizo or mushrooms, is a must-try.
