With new eateries opening up all the time, there is no lack of options no matter what you’re craving. We’ve rounded up some of the most unique new restaurants in the city. 1. Open Mic Cafe & Cuisine

Claim to Fame: Founded by renowned “infotainer” Aftab Iqbal, this Pakistani restaurant is the second of two locations, the first being located in Lahore, Pakistan. The menu offers a variety of traditional favourite appetizers, entrees and sweets. 

Claim to Fame: This spot offers authentic Italian and Halal cuisine. Owner Aftab Khan previously ran another beloved Italian restaurant in Vancouver, Ciao Bella Ristorante, and is bringing his passion for the cuisine to Mississauga. Guests will love the create-your-own-pasta option, which includes over 100 combinations.

Claim to Fame: Sushi Shop has over 150 locations throughout Canada – now including Port Credit. In addition to classic sushi offerings, its menu has expanded to include favourites like Poke bowls, as well as fusion offerings like sushi tacos, burritos and burgers. 

Claim to Fame: A North American pioneer, SunRise is one of the largest Caribbean chains in North America, as well as one of the first to offer a Drive Thru, and one of the very first Caribbean restaurant chains in Canada. When you visit you’ll enjoy the good vibes and even better food. The menu includes a variety of traditional dishes, from jerk chicken to saltfish and veggie options. 

Claim to Fame: Offering hand-formed Halal burgers made with fresh ingredients like premium beef and brioche buns, this isn’t your average burger joint. You’ll find made-from-scratch sauces and premium toppings. Short for Great Canadian, GC offers some Canadiana throughout its whole menu. Try the GC Shake, made with a Nanaimo bar!

Claim to Fame:  Already beloved in Toronto, at Alforat’s newest location you can enjoy an authentic taste of Iraq with classic street food like shawarma, kabab, falafael and much more, served in daily baked samoon bread. The appetizer plates are a perfect accompaniment and with platters available, there are plenty of shareable options. 

Claim to Fame: Restauranteur and chef Jihad “Abu Yousef” has decades of experience in the food industry, working all over the world, including Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and Palestine. You’ll find delicious Middle Eastern flavours woven throughout Dough Master’s menu of pizzas and pastries. Don’t skip the dessert pizza with Nutella and banana. 

Claim to Fame: Already a favourite in multiple locations across Canada, this Italian hotspot is also a bar, making it perfect for when you want to enjoy a little bit of nightlight plus a lot of delicious food. You can find plenty of Italian classics, including traditional flavours, but they also offer unique choices like the Industria pizza featuring their own special sauce, beef, cheddar and iceberg lettuce.
