Since the World Mahjong Organization was founded in 2005 in Beijing\, China\, by 8 countries\, its membership has grown to more than 40 countries and regions\, and has successfully held six world championships\, namely: \n\nINTRODUCTION TO THE 7TH WORLD MAHJONG CHAMPIONSHIP\n\n\nThe 2024 Seventh World Mahjong Championship will be held in Mississauga\, Canada from October 11th to 15th\, 2024. \nThe World Mahjong Championship is the most authoritative and high-level Chinese Mahjong intellectual sports competition in the world hosted by the World Mahjong Organization (WMO). Since the World Mahjong Organization was founded in 2005 in Beijing\, China\, by 8 countries\, its membership has grown to more than 40 countries and regions\, and has successfully held six world championships\, namely: \nThe first session: 2007\, Emeishan\, Chengdu\, China \nThe second session: 2010\, Utrecht\, Netherlands \nThe third session: 2012\, Qianjiang\, Chongqing\, China \nThe 4th: 2015\, Jeju Island\, South Korea \nThe fifth session\, 2017\, Xi’an\, Shaanxi\, China \nThe 6th\, 2019\, Lyon\, France \nThe 7th World Mahjong Championship is the first world championship after the new crown epidemic\, and it is also the first top-level event of the World Mahjong Championship to be held in North America. The member organizations of WMO are gearing up to achieve good results in the World Championships. They will hold various forms of selections and competitions\, promote a healthy\, scientific and friendly mahjong culture\, and an atmosphere of intellectual competition. WMO hopes that the Canada MCR Sports Association will give full play to Canada’s unique advantages and resources\, demonstrate our wisdom and organizational coordination capabilities\, and strive to build this competition into a stage for friendly exchanges and cooperation between countries and people. DESCRIPTION:Living Arts Centre 24/25 Season Event\n\nIn 1994 in his hometown of Portland\, Oregon\, Thomas Lauderdale was working in local politics when he saw the need for most engaging and inspiring music at political fundraisers. \nDrawing inspiration from music from all over the world–crossing genres of classical\, jazz and old-fashioned pop–and hoping to appeal to conservatives and liberals alike\, he founded the “little orchestra” Pink Martini in 1994 to provide more beautiful and inclusive musical soundtracks for causes such as civil rights\, affordable housing\, the environment\, libraries\, public broadcasting\, education and parks. One year later\, Lauderdale called China Forbes\, a Harvard classmate who was living in New York City\, and asked her to join Pink Martini. Their first song writing collaboration was “Sympathique (Je ne veux pas travailler)”which became an overnight sensation in France\, was nominated for “Song of the Year” at France’s Victoires de la Musique Awards\, and is still the band’s number one song. \nIn 2024 the band is celebrating it’s 30th anniversary!

SUMMARY:Once Upon A Dream
DESCRIPTION:Once Upon a Dream” is a voice and piano concert featuring Anna Wojcik\, soprano\, and Alex Wang\, piano. It will take place on September 7th at 7pm in the Studio Theatre at the Living Arts Centre. The concert will enter the magical world of fairytales with a retelling of classic princess stories. Experience Cinderella\, Sleeping Beauty\, and Snow White through opera arias\, art songs\, piano pieces\, and beloved songs from the Disney films. The concert will feature works by composers including Fauré\, Prokofiev\, Debussy\, and Larsen.  \n\n\n\nAs a duo\, Anna and Alex have been working together since 2017. Among others\, they have performed recitals together to great success at the Polish Consulate in Toronto\, the Lieutenant Governor’s Suite in Queen’s Park\, and the Art Gallery of Mississauga. The program for “Once Upon a Dream ” was inspired by the various repertoire that has stemmed from the original Grimm’s brothers fairy tales. This concert stretches the traditional Art Song recital medium by not only including Art Songs\, but also connecting opera arias\, musical-theatre songs\, and piano pieces\, to highlight their relevancies with an underlying theme that is easy to follow and throughlines the entire program. The program is varied and is a great introduction to classical music for new audience members.  \n\n\n\nThere will be English subtitles displayed for foreign-language pieces. This concert is presented as part of the City of Mississauga’s Love Local Music Program.
