SUMMARY:Once Upon A Dream
DESCRIPTION:Once Upon a Dream” is a voice and piano concert featuring Anna Wojcik\, soprano\, and Alex Wang\, piano. It will take place on September 7th at 7pm in the Studio Theatre at the Living Arts Centre. The concert will enter the magical world of fairytales with a retelling of classic princess stories. Experience Cinderella\, Sleeping Beauty\, and Snow White through opera arias\, art songs\, piano pieces\, and beloved songs from the Disney films. The concert will feature works by composers including Fauré\, Prokofiev\, Debussy\, and Larsen.  \n\n\n\nAs a duo\, Anna and Alex have been working together since 2017. Among others\, they have performed recitals together to great success at the Polish Consulate in Toronto\, the Lieutenant Governor’s Suite in Queen’s Park\, and the Art Gallery of Mississauga. The program for “Once Upon a Dream ” was inspired by the various repertoire that has stemmed from the original Grimm’s brothers fairy tales. This concert stretches the traditional Art Song recital medium by not only including Art Songs\, but also connecting opera arias\, musical-theatre songs\, and piano pieces\, to highlight their relevancies with an underlying theme that is easy to follow and throughlines the entire program. The program is varied and is a great introduction to classical music for new audience members.  \n\n\n\nThere will be English subtitles displayed for foreign-language pieces. This concert is presented as part of the City of Mississauga’s Love Local Music Program. DESCRIPTION:Living Arts Centre 24/25 Season Event\n\nIn 1994 in his hometown of Portland\, Oregon\, Thomas Lauderdale was working in local politics when he saw the need for most engaging and inspiring music at political fundraisers. \nDrawing inspiration from music from all over the world–crossing genres of classical\, jazz and old-fashioned pop–and hoping to appeal to conservatives and liberals alike\, he founded the “little orchestra” Pink Martini in 1994 to provide more beautiful and inclusive musical soundtracks for causes such as civil rights\, affordable housing\, the environment\, libraries\, public broadcasting\, education and parks. One year later\, Lauderdale called China Forbes\, a Harvard classmate who was living in New York City\, and asked her to join Pink Martini. Their first song writing collaboration was “Sympathique (Je ne veux pas travailler)”which became an overnight sensation in France\, was nominated for “Song of the Year” at France’s Victoires de la Musique Awards\, and is still the band’s number one song. \nIn 2024 the band is celebrating it’s 30th anniversary!

Created by acclaimed choreographer and Artistic Director Bengt Jörgen to Tchaikovsky’s well-loved score\, this delightful classic is a favourite that brings magic to the holidays.  \n\n\n\nBorn from a collaboration with Kleinburg’s world renowned McMichael Canadian Art Collection\, and with well over 100 costumes in richly coloured fabrics\, The Nutcracker: A Canadian Tradition brings out the magic of Canada. 20th Century landscapes make up the stunning 30-foot backdrops\, including Franklin Carmichael’s Church and Houses at Bisset (1931)\, Tom Thompson’s Snow in the Woods (1916)\, and L.L. Fitzgerald’s Trees and Wildflowers (1922). This is a beautiful Canadian work\, and audiences are taken on Klara’s familiar\, magical dream journey as she arrives in Canada and experiences winter landscapes filled with snowflakes\, lumberjacks\, Mounties\, and creatures of the woods.
