DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Pride and National Indigenous Peoples Day with a riveting performance by The Cris Derksen Quartet! \nThe Internationally acclaimed ensemble includes the talents of Juno-nominated Cree cellist Cris Derksen\, artist and storyteller from the Naskapi Nation of Kawawachikamach Marie-Celine Charron Einish\, Tuscarora/Gaelic Singer Rebecca Benson\, and professional percussion and jazz drumming musician Stefan Schneider. \n\nIn a world where almost everything — people\, music\, cultures — gets labelled and slotted into simple categories\, Cris Derksen represents a challenge. Originally from Northern Alberta she comes from a line of chiefs from NorthTall Cree Reserve on her father’s side and a line of strong Mennonite homesteaders on her mother’s. Derksen braids the traditional and contemporary\, weaving her classical background and her Indigenous ancestry together with new school electronics to create genredefying music. \n\nQuartet Bios\nMarie-Celine Charron Einish is an Indigiqueer dancer\, artist and storyteller from the Naskapi Nation of Kawawachikamach\, who showcases powwow dancing\, alongside many world-class artists.\nStefan Schneider studied classical percussion and jazz drumming and has performed for the last twenty-two years. Stefan is an original member of the Toronto Based 12-piece chamber ensemble\, The Queer Songbook Orchestra.\nRebecca Benson is a Tuscaroran and Scottish Two Spirit Iroqueer\, a classically trained singer with a fierce love of pop music\, who began drumming ten years ago. Children under 12 years of age may best enjoy this stage/type of puzzle. \nSkill: All skill levels welcome. \nThe goal of this workshop is for a collaborative effort within a family unit to create a puzzle featuring the families language representation. The puzzles will already be cut out and engraved\, so families will work together to sand their puzzles\, glue them together and then paint the animals. This will also encourage families to look at what their traditional art forms may be and demonstrate how art can take different forms. \nAhead of time\, when registering we will ask the language that your family want for the animals as well as the name you would like along the top. DESCRIPTION:Artscape Atelier\, in partnership with Lakeview Village presents the ‘The ptsi maskisina (Mini Moccasin)’ virtual workshop\, led by indigenous artist Pandora Wilhelm from Mulberry Design & Engravings\, as part of the Discovery Centre Artists-In-Residence Workshop Series. \nThis offers participants an opportunity to learn about traditional Indigenous knowledge and clothing while exploring their own creative expression. The workshop is designed for participants to create a contemporary pair of miniature moccasins using natural materials such as seed beads\, sinew\, suede cording\, and soft deer hide. \nParticipants will start by working with the seed beads to create a simple floral design on the toe piece of the moccasin. After completing the beading\, they will then assemble the moccasins for display\, creating a unique art piece.
