SUMMARY:Dreamland: An exhibition about home\, identity and the art of belonging
DESCRIPTION:Dreamland\, curated by Hibah Mian\, poses the question: “Is it possible to exist in two places at one time?” \nThe project illustrates new ways to understand the passage of one space to another\, the move from a home to a house\, while learning stories of trauma and transformation. Dreamland looks at BIPOC artists’ works and residents in Mississauga to conceptualize the use of public spaces that propose associations between the immigrant or refugee in a western world. \nFeatured artists include: \n\nBaljit Singh\,\nYazan Salameh\,\nKarim Machado-Aman\,\nKrystal Ball\, and\nPar Nair.\n\nThis project is funded through the Museums’ BIPOC Community Curator Program.

SUMMARY:Narrative Nuance Opening Event
DESCRIPTION:“Narratives are stories we all live with. They inform how we view and understand the world\, giving shape and character to real events\, imagined realities\, and systems of power.” – The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art \nVisual storytelling has always been a function of art; telling rich stories of society\, culture\, history\, and contemporary thought. These stories may be obvious in the arrangement of figures or symbols\, or they could be more deeply hidden\, awaiting discovery. They can be suggested through mood\, palette\, media\, atmosphere\, and iconography. These visual works reflect human history\, experiences\, and aspirations that can be read across time\, language\, and culture. Narrative art can also provide a window into the lived experience of an artist or community\, it can connect and create conversation around complex ideas\, and even shift the way we think. \nNarrative Nuance is a celebration of this narrative tradition. Please join us for the opening event on Saturday\, August 17th\, 12-4 pm.
